U.S. Embassy in London, U.K.: Extended Hours Services for U.S. Citizens During 2012 Olympic
Due to increased activity in central London and congestion on public transport systems during the Olympic Games, U.S. Embassy in London, U.K. will have extended hours of services for U.S. citizens from Friday, July 27 through Tuesday, August 14, 2012, with public hours from 7:30 am until 7:00 pm Monday through Friday.
- U.S. citizens may make appointments for routine services such as passports or birth registration services.
- U.S. citizens needing emergency assistance, including lost or stolen passport, should call the main Embassy number 0207-499-9000, and ask to speak with the American Citizens Services section.
U.S. Embassy London encourages US citizens on the following:
- U.S. citizens living or traveling abroad are encouraged to enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) website or register directly with the relevant U.S. Consulate or Embassy, rendering it easier for the U.S. Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency.
- U.S. citizens traveling and living abroad should regularly monitor the Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs website, in sections such as Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, Country Specific Information, and “A Safe Trip Abroad“.

- Travelers may obtain latest information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada, or outside the United States and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
